Cryogenics:
This is branch in physics which deals with the study and production of materials at very low temperatures. Cryogenicists’ studies elements subjected to extreme cold temperatures. Cryogenics can be used for preservation purposes.
Why do people think cryonics freezes people?
The process can be termed as vitrifying, but the movies and the media consistently present this as freezing. Why they do so? This is because here we are making something very cold, and to the point we can see that without the process of vitrification they would be frozen. This is the reason why we personally prefer to use the term cryogenic preservation rather than the term freezing, that way we could avoid the confusions.
We can see that this process is more similar to turning the body into a glasslike structure rather than normal freezing. We can see that the process for doing this requires either longer time than is preferred for the brain without preservation or requires toxic chemicals. That you can’t be cryogenically preserved while still alive (it’s illegal, you have to be legally dead to one of the standards before they can). Technically it’s not even burial, most of the companies, at least in the US, have to accept your body as a donation to science. However, the technology for it is getting better every year. We have been able to successfully preserve various tissues, including brain tissues, and bring them back to a viable form even going so far as implanting the non-brain tissues in a rabbit successfully.
Final Word:
We can see that the process happening is not freezing rather a vitrification process is occurring and we might as well note that the process converts the body into a glass like structure rather than freezing. The technology is improving further more widely to a whole new level.
